Inner Loop of Beltway Backed Up for Miles After Truck Overturns

A semitractor-trailer carrying boxes of trash bags overturned on the Capital Beltway Wednesday morning, causing major delays on the inner loop.

At one point, there was an 11-mile backup in the area.

Police say the driver of the semitractor-trailer swerved to avoid a car and then the truck flipped at River Road in Bethesda, Maryland.

The truck overturned onto the right shoulder. No one was hurt.

The driver of the semitractor-trailer was cited for negligent driving, according to police.

Police closed three lanes of the inner loop after the morning rush while crews removed the truck from the scene.

The truck had been towed but delays remained as of 10:15 a.m.
