The security guard fatally shot on the job in Capitol Heights, Md. last week was remembered at a memorial service Thursday night.
Adrian Kinard, 26, and another guard were sitting in their cars outside the Central Garden Apartments complex on Cindy Lane filling out paperwork after midnight July 17 when they were approached and shot, police said.
Kinard, a father of a 1-year-old, died at a hospital. The other guard survived.
At a candlelight vigil, his mother and fiancee said Kinard was hardworking and kind.
"Adrian did not deserve this. He was such a lovable person," fiancee Virginia Arausa said through sobs.
"He didn't bother anybody," his mother, Cynthia Kinard, said. "He was doing his job, keeping people safe."
Investigators believe the two guards were targeted. The car used in the fatal shooting was found parked on 45th Street NE near Kenilworth Gardens in D.C. on Sunday morning, police said in an update Wednesday.

Kinard's mother and fiancee urged the shooter to come forward.
"You need to turn yourself in," the shooting victim's mother said. "Eventually, you're going to be caught."
