Scott's Cove Water Access Closed After Nearby Wastewater Overflow

The Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission temporarily closed water access today at Scott’s Cove Recreation Area in Laurel, Maryland, after a nearby wastewater station overflowed.

The Howard County wastewater pumping station experienced the overflow Monday morning and estimates about 10,000 gallons overflowed. Approximately 600 gallons were wastewater. The remainder was chlorinated drinking water.

Drinking water supplied by WSSC will not be affected by the overflow.

The closures prohibit fishing and boat launching from the area. Swimming has never been allowed in the Cove. The playground and picnic areas remain open.

The wastewater facility is located near Scott’s Cove along Rocky Gorge Reservoir.

Howard County is posting signs in the area to warn residents and visitors of the overflow. For further information, contact the Howard County Bureau of Water and Wastewater Utilities at 410-313-4900.
