School Dismissed for Day After Bomb Threat at KIPP DC

Students at KIPP DC College Preparatory have been dismissed for the day after someone phoned in a bomb threat.

D.C. Police were contacted shortly after 9:30 a.m. Friday about the threat, which was made via phone.

The school was evacuated.

School officials cancelled the rest of the school day due to security concerns, they said in a message to parents Friday.

"A threat was called in and, out of an abundance of caution, we are sweeping the building and sending students home," the message said in part. "Due to the length of time required to conduct the sweep and the cold weather we are releasing students now. All students and staff are safe."

Police officers remained on the scene at 1405 Brentwood Parkway NW several hours later.
