School Bus Fire in Pr. William County

Children on board the bus at time of incident

Police and fire fighters responded to a school bus fire Thursday morning in Prince William County.

Police confirmed a bus caught on fire shortly before 7 a.m. at 10495 Butterfield Street in Manassas.

Children were on the bus at the time of the fire, police said, but no injuries have been reported.

Prince William County fire battalion chief Joseph Robertson said five students were evacuated from the burning bus.  According to Robertson, a passing motorist flagged the bus driver down and alerted him to a fire in the undercarriage of the bus.

The driver and an aide assisted the students in getting off the vehicle safely.

A nearby car and shed were also damaged in the incident.  Total damage is estimated at $100,000.

Authorities said there does not seem to be anything suspicious about the fire, but they are continuing their investigation.
