School Bus Accident in Silver Spring

Students from Francis Scott Key Middle School

Montgomery County Fire and EMS responded to the report of a school bus crash on Wednesday morning.

A bus traveling south on New Hampshire Avenue was turning left onto Schindler Lane in Silver Spring, Md., about 7:40 a.m. when an SUV swerved in front of it. The bus struck the SUV and then a house in the 1200 block of Schindler, according to Montgomery County police.

None of the 33 students on board the bus was injured. After evaluation, the students were transported to their school, Francis Scott Key Middle School.

The bus damaged shrubbery and caused minor brick damage to the vacant home, which is up for sale. The vehicle's front window shattered from the impact.

The driver of the SUV was charged with failure to stop and yield the right of way at a stop sign and failure to control speed to avoid a collision. She was taken to an area hospital.
