Residents in a Northwest neighborhood faced a rude awakening this morning.  Tires on at least 20 vehicles were slashed in what some people are calling an act of "eco terrorism" -- because it looks like SUVs were targeted.

SUV driver Tomas Trnka said he'd initially thought his vehicle was damaged by nearby construction -- but when he consulted with the crew, he learned otherwise. "Oh, you're the second guy on the block," he says a neighbor told him.

Some vehicle owners think the vandal or vandals targeted SUVs to make a point about gasoline usage. Others think it was teens just looking to stir up some trouble.

"I'm very upset," said Trnka. "It's going to be a few hundred dollars to replace it."

The area affected runs from 39th and Calvert streets N.W., from Davis to Tunlaw. Police say if you live in the area and haven't checked your tires yet, please do so before you try to drive.
