SUV Strikes, Kills 18-Year-Old University of Maryland Student in College Park

A SUV struck and killed a Univeristy of Maryland student as she was crossing a street in College Park, Maryland, early Sunday morning, police say.

Maria Fisher, 18, was trying to cross the northbound lanes of Baltimore Avenue near Campus Drive when the SUV hit her, Prince George's County police said.

Officers were called to the scene about 6:20 a.m. and found Fisher in critical condition. She was taken to a hospital, where she died a short time later, police said.

Fisher is from Eagles View in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, police said.

The driver remained on the scene and wasn't hurt, police said.

Investigators are working to find out the circumstances of the crash and if Fisher was using a crosswalk.
