Rudolph Deflated After Christmas Parade Injury

Red-nosed reindeer deflated in Richmond

"Come on, Rudolph! Don’t go further this way. No!"

You can hear a helpful bystander shouting out on the tape of the Dominion Christmas Parade in Richmond, Va., last Saturday.

The Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer giant balloon had an unfortunate accident in front of lots of unsuspecting children. He couldn’t clear the traffic light and it poked him in the head. He sprung a leak and slowly went down -- defeated, and deflated.

And here we are, counting the days until Christmas.  What will Santa do?

The Dominion Christmas Parade website has a Rudolph update:

"Thanks for your messages of concern over Rudolph’s unfortunate accident. First we’ve determined after careful review that Rudolph was not pushed. His accident was the result of unruly winds, limited training for the handlers and the laws of physics.

Rudolph is recovering nicely. We expect a full recovery and expect that after cosmetic surgery and adequate recovery period, he will re-enter the parade lineup next year ready to serve once again."

Let’s hope the laws of physics are able to heal the hole in Rudolph’s head so he can carry out his duties in time for Christmas.
