Roll Back of Metro's Late Weekend Hours Considered

When The Washington Post reported last month that Metro had raised the issue of rolling back late weekend hours, officials were quick to tell NBC Washington's Tom Sherwood that no one had made such a proposal, it was merely mentioned in discussions. Nevertheless, the idea generated a lot of negative feedback from the food and drink industry in the area.

Such a plan, which could save money and make more time for renovations and repairs, causes concerns about increased drunken driving and decreased business after midnight.

It seems those concerns weren't wasted energy.

At its board meeting Thursday, Metro planned to formally outline a plan to close the rail system at midnight Fridays and Saturdays instead of letting them stay open until 3 a.m. -- when bars close -- WAMU reported.
