Riders Experiencing Problems With SmarTrip Cards

Metrobus riders are apparently having problems adding value to their SmarTrip cards.

Metro officials said there’s been a spike in complaints in the past week, mainly from customers in the Silver Spring, Md., area.

Passengers are reporting receiving receipts saying their cards have expired, despite having expiration dates 20 years in the future.
Metro spokeswoman Cathy Asato said there’s most likely a problem with the Cubic software, which is the SmarTrip card’s vendor.
“We are working to correct it as quickly as possible," she said. "We will test and implement a software fix over the next few weeks.”
