RICHMOND, Va. -- A 21-year-old-Richmond man is in jail, accused in a shooting at Virginia Union University.

The victim was treated at Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center for non-life-threatening wounds to the leg, Richmond police said in a news release Sunday. The victim's name was not released.

Police charged 21-year-old Jimar Jewell with malicious wounding and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

The shooting occurred shortly before 1 a.m. outside Newman Hall.

A weapon discarded during a foot chase was recovered, police said.

A call to the Richmond police for more information was not immediately returned, according to the Associated Press.
