Retired ER Nurse Punched, Threatened With Gun During Burglary in Upper Northwest D.C.

A retired emergency room nurse awakened by burglars Saturday morning said one of the intruders hit her face to keep her quiet.

Nicole Boozer said she was startled awake by loud noises in her home on Albermarle Street NW in D.C.’s AU Park neighborhood about 8:30 a.m.

“It’s such a terrifying moment to wake up and find someone in your house that you’ve never seen before,” she said.

Two men kicked in her back door and were rummaging through her house. Boozer encountered them at the top of the stairs.

“I said, ‘I don’t have anything. Please don’t hurt me, please don’t hurt me,’” she said. “And he said, ‘I have a gun. Get on your knees.’ And that was the first thing I thought, I’ve got to get down these steps.”

So she made a run for it.

“I thought [dying] was possible, but I thought I’d give myself a fighting chance,” she said. “I wasn’t going to try and die in here, that’s for sure.”

But one of the men punched her and warned her to keep quiet.

“He punches me in the side of my face to get me away from the door,” she said. “And he tells me, ‘I’m going to kill you b---- if you tell the police, and they ran out the door, and I was behind the door, so I didn’t get to see how they got out the door.”
