Standoff in Montgomery County Over; Suspect Arrested

Montgomery County police said a man allegedly involved in a carjacking and barricade situation in Potomac, Maryland, has been arrested.

Perry Marcel Bryant has been charged with armed carjacking, attempted kidnapping and home invasion.

According to police, a woman was in her black BMW in the 7200 block of Honeywell Lane when Bryant displayed a gun, got into the backseat and told her to drive.

The victim escaped and flagged another driver down for help, but the suspect drove away from the scene. Officers tried to stop the BMW, but the suspect refused to pull over.

Bryant eventually crashed the BMW near Falls Road and Falls Chapel Way and entered a nearby townhouse through an open window, police said. The homeowner was inside when Bryant ran inside, but she was able to flee almost immediately, according to police.

The homeowner flagged down officers and told them the suspect was now inside her home.

Police said Bryant refused to come out, and an Emergency Response Team was called to the scene.

Five hours later, officers were able to enter the home, and Bryant was arrested him at about 8:30 p.m.

Two school buses from Beverly Farms Elementary School had to return to the school, because they could not enter the neighborhood. Parents were asked to pick up those students.

Wayside Elementary School and Cold Spring Elementary School have been dismissed, and all students have left the buildings.

Hoover Elementary School is not allowing after-school activity buses in. Parents must pick up children in person.
