Can't access Instagram or Pinterest? Can't stream via Netflix?  You're not alone.

The severe storms that knocked out power to more than 1 million customers in the D.C. area Friday night also took out a major Amazon Compute Cloud in northern Virginia, according to Forbes. com.

More from Forbes.com's Anthony Wing Kosner:

As of 11:21 PM EST Amazon’s Elastic Compute Cloud in North Virginia went down, due to severe thunder storms in the area. Amazon EC2 runs many major websites and services. Netflix, Instagram, and Pinterest have all been taken out of service during the outage.
