Registered Sex Offender Gets 10 Years in Child Porn Case

A man convicted of sexually abusing a child in the 1990s was sentenced Thursday to 10 years in prison for possessing child pornography in a new case.

Harold Michael Nicol, 53, of Cumberland, Md. -- already a registered sex offender -- pleaded guilty to uploading four images of a prepubescent child engaging in sexually explicit conduct with adults.

An undercover officer found the images in 2011, and an investigation determined that Nicol had made them available for download from his home computer.

Authorities say that while executing a search warrant, they found more than 400 pieces of child pornography on Nicol's computers and storage media.

They also found two rifles he was prohibited from owning due to his previous felony conviction, they said.

Nicol was convicted in the late 1990s for sexual contact with an elementary school-aged child under his care, according to records from the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services.

His prison term will be followed by lifetime supervised release.
