Redskins Tight End Fred Davis Charged With DUI

News4 has confirmed Redskins tight end Fred Davis has been charged with DUI.

Fairfax County Police say Davis, 28, was stopped at Gallows Road and Leesburg Pike just before 4 p.m. Thursday and taken into custody.

Police have not confirmed whether Davis has been released.

He was suspended indefinitely from the NFL Wednesday for violating the league's substance abuse policy.

Davis claims that this supension stems from a supplement that contained a banned substance, unbeknownst to him.

"In the past, I made the mistake of knowingly ingesting a banned substance," he said in a statement. "For over two years, I've worked very hard to eliminate marijuana from my life, and I have not had a positive test for it since 2011. Unfortunately, a couple of months ago I took a supplement that contained a banned substance. I now know that supplements are not regulated by the FDA and may contain banned substances.

Davis, who failed multiple drug tests in 2011 for marijuana, is a free agent. He caught only seven passes last season and was replaced by rookie Jordan Reed.

He is the ninth Redskin to be suspended by the NFL for a drug policy violation since 2011.
