Arcing Insulator Reported on Metro's Red Line

The incident comes two days after an arcing insulator caused service disruptions on the Orange, Blue and Silver lines

Trains shared a track on a portion of Metro's Red Line through closing Sunday night after a report of an arcing insulator at the Metro Center station, Metro Transit Police say.

Service on the Red Line was suspended between Judiciary Square and Farragut North, but trains later single-tracked between those two stations until closing.

Metro Transit Police said it received the call about an arcing insulator about 6:50 p.m. and it is investigating. Metro tweeted that there is fire department activity at the station.

A witness told News4 he reported the small fire by using emergency buttons at the station and the fire created dark smoke.

On Friday, service on the Orange, Blue and Silver lines was suspended between McPherson Square and Federal Triangle after an arcing insulator on the tracks at Metro Center. Photos from Metro riders showed fire and smoke on the tracks.
