Puppy Recovering After Falling From Balcony

A 3-month-old puppy named Dexter is recovering at the Prince William County Animal Shelter from injuries shelter officials believe were caused by someone throwing him off of a second-story apartment balcony.

The border collie mix broke his leg in four places in the Aug. 22 fall, which is being investigated by animal control. There were no witnesses and no one has stepped forward to claim the puppy. He was rescured by a neighbor who heard him hit the ground, shelter Animal Rescue Manager Beate Begley told WTOP.

Dexter’s surgery cost $2,600 and the shelter is seeking donations for him and other homeless pets through the Prince William Humane Society. His cast is expected to come off his leg in six weeks.
