Propane Leak Creates ‘Flare-Off' by Emergency Crews

Emergency crews have been working for hours with a leaking 1,000 gallon propane tank in Potomac, Maryland.

Spokesman Pete Piringer said hazmat crews are performing a “flare-off” procedure, which requires burning the propane, to deal with the leaking gas. The tank is underground at a home in the 9800 block of Meriden Road.

Piringer said the leak was reported around 11:30 a.m. Saturday. At 7 a.m. Sunday, he said relief crews were on the way to take over monitoring the “flare-off.”

There are no reports of injuries. Some roads in the area are closed.
