Prince William Co. Woman Celebrates 103rd Birthday

The day after she celebrated her 103rd birthday, Doris Woodring was gifted a cake, corsage and balloons by the staff of Giant Foods in Woodbridge, Va.

"We absolutely wanted to do something for her so we threw a party for her," store manager Larry Merritt said.

After eating her cake, Woodring was ready to do her grocery shopping. As she pushed her cart through the aisles, other shoppers and store staff congratulated her.

"You look wonderful!" One worker told Woodring. She replied, "I feel wonderful and I don't have an ache nor a pain."

Living at Westminster at Lake Ridge retirement community now, Doris is proud of her energy and her independence. She says laughing helps.

And following her through the store, she had plenty of jokes to keep others laughing.

"I wouldn't mind taking a cute boy home with me," she joked.

At checkout, her tab was taken care of by Giant. And as she headed back onto her shuttle bus, she told the store workers, "I love every one of you. And I thank you from the bottom of my heart. My 103-year-old heart."
