Prince George's County School Board Member Urges Outside Investigation in Head Start Abuse

A Prince George's County school board members is circulating a petition to urge Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan and County Executive Rushern Baker to call for an outside investigation into the county's Head Start program.

The school board member, Edward Burroughs, says he hopes citizens won't allow the school system to investigate and police itself after losing $6.4 million in funding following allegations of abuse.

The county's public schools system and board of education were notified in August that the grant was terminated due to failure to "timely correct one or more deficiencies," a spokesperson said.

The program was apparently under a federal investigation for months after a review by the Administration for Children and Families allegedly revealed poor instructor training and alleged abuse of students.
