Prince George's County Police Patrolling Crime “Hot Spots”

Officers will focus on six areas of the county.

Prince George’s County Police are trying to crack down on what they call “crime hot spots.”

It’s part of the Transforming Neighborhoods Initiative, which aims to get as many guns as possible off the streets.

For the next two weeks, specialized patrol officers will focus on Langley Park, East Riverdale, Suitland, Kentland, Hillcrest Heights and Oxon Hill.

The extra officers will patrol the areas during evening and early morning hours.

This is the second time Prince George’s County police have stepped up enforcement in certain areas.

Major Joe McCann told the Washington Post that it seems to be working.

“We’re down more than 40 percent in homicides, and our gun violence, shootings, handgun violence is down. So we know we’re doing something right.”
