Prince George's County Police Officer Charged With Assault in D.C.

The head of the Prince George's County Police Department says one of his officers has been suspended after being arrested and charged with assault with a dangerous weapon in Washington.

Prince George's County Police Chief Mark Magaw made the announcement Friday. Cpl. Michael Brown, a 12-year veteran assigned to the aviation unit, was arrested Thursday when he was off duty.

Brown got into an altercation with another man near Howard Theatre in the 600 block of T Street NW and allegedly hit him with a gun, according to the D.C. police report.

Magaw did not add details but said Brown has been suspended without pay pending an administrative hearing.

Brown is scheduled to return to court in Washington July 23.
