Faculty at Capitol Heights Elementary School hosted a special day for young girls to feel empowered.
“What we believe here at Capitol Heights is all students, but in particular this day, that our young ladies have a voice,” Nina Lattimore, the school's principal.
The Prince George’s County school hosted Girl Empowerment Day to teach young girls how to feel confident and believe in themselves. The principal, teachers and administrators sponsored the daylong event.
Young girls participated in science, technology, engineering and math projects. They gardened and acted out skits that demonstrate girl empowerment.
“My number one goal is to become president of the United States,” one student said.
Another said she hopes to become a lieutenant, like her father.
Students painted things like positive messages on rocks to represent building their dreams, one step at a time.

“This is definitely needed in every school,” said parent Stacey Sadeq.
