Prince George's County Cab Driver Shot

Driver shot in a school parking lot

A Prince George's County cab driver was shot around 2 p.m. Tuesday in what may have been an attempted robbery.

The incident began when a driver for Blue Bird Cab picked up a passenger at the New Carrollton Metro station. He asked the driver to bring him to Cooper Lane Elementary School in Landover Hills, which is now known as Cooper Lane Academy.

The school is not open this week, and the parking lot was empty, leading the driver to sense the passenger may have wanted to rob him, reported NBC4's Jackie Bensen.

The passenger asked the driver to take him to the rear of the school, but when the cab driver refused, he pulled out a handgun and shot him in the lower body.

The victim has been transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police had only a vague description of the suspect, saying he was black man in his 20s, wearing khaki pants and had a full beard. They're asking cab drivers to keep an eye out.
