D.C. Man Wins Pr. George's House Lottery

Will move in to new Lanham home this month

For D.C. resident Derek Slocum, the first hint that he would have an eventful Saturday came from his wife, Tuconya.

"She woke up this morning and said 'I just have a feeling,'" said Slocum, who was the lucky winner of a drawing that allows him to purchase a four-bedroom, two-bathroom house in Lanham at a substantially reduced price.

Prince George's County Executive Rushern Baker pulled Slocum's name out of the lottery drum Saturday afternoon at the Curry Sports and Learning Complex in Landover.

News4 was a partner in the Housing Fair and House Lottery, which was being organized by the Prince George's County Department of Housing and Community Development.

Each person who entered the drawing had to be qualified for a $190,000 mortgage and had to be a first-time homebuyer. The house in Lanhan was worth $260,000

"We're elated, excited, thankful, and blessed," said Slocum, who can officially move in to his new home at the end of this month.
