Fairfax County's Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology is planning a $90 million renovation and expansion of its building.
The Washington Examiner reports the project will add a two-story research wing that will house laboratories, a wave tank for oceanography studies and an optics lab with lasers. Grants and private donations are funding the technology.
The school was built in 1964 and was last renovated in 1989. In recent years, it had to add 25 trailers to accommodate students.
Principal Evan Glazer says new common areas with computers between classrooms will replace hallways and computer labs. The idea is to maximize learning space in the building.
As a regional Governor's School, Thomas Jefferson educates students from Fairfax, Loudoun, Arlington and Prince William counties and Falls Church City.
