President Trump Closes Federal Offices for Christmas Eve

President Donald Trump has ordered that federal offices be closed on Christmas Eve, giving many federal workers the day off.

The order, which was issued Tuesday, says all "executive departments and agencies of the Federal Government shall be closed" Monday.

But not every employee will get to enjoy a long weekend.

Under the order, the heads of some departments and agencies can decide to keep certain offices open for the day.

The order comes as the possibility of a partial government shutdown looms. The White House signaled Tuesday that Trump could be willing to back off his demand for $5 billion to build a border wall.

Without a resolution, more than 800,000 government workers could be furloughed or sent to work without pay beginning at midnight Friday
