Obamas Head to Camp David

Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE President Barack Obama might be the leader of the free world, but he enjoys a good holiday weekend like the rest of us.

The Commander in Chief and family are heading to Camp David in Maryland’s Catoctin Mountains to celebrate the Fourth of July.

If you're wondering how much time the president has spent at Camp David -- like some members of Congress -- Politico has the answer:

During his presidency, Obama has made 17 visits to Camp David, spanning all or part of 39 days, according to Mark Knoller, the veteran CBS White House correspondent who keeps detailed records of presidential travels. At this point in George W. Bush’s presidency, by comparison, he had made 62 visits spanning 189 days in total, Knoller said.

It’s an extra special weekend, as Malia Obama enters the teenage years.

The eldest Obama daughter turns 13 on July 4 -- and she’ll probably spend it mad at her father.

Earlier in the week, the president got her age wrong not once, but twice during a press conference.

The First Family’s vacation is a far cry from last year’s July 4 celebration.

President Obama and first lady Michelle held a giant barbecue and concert on the White House’s South Lawn last year.

More than 1,200 people attended, including many active-duty service members and their families, as well as wounded troops and families of troops who died in service.
