Pregnant Woman Attacked in Montgomery County

Frederick woman faces attempted murder charge

A Frederick County woman is in jail after being charged in a grisly attack on a pregnant woman in Montgomery County.

Police say Christine Renee Devaux, 38, was arrested at the Frederick Motel Saturday evening after she allegedly attacked the victim with a stun gun Friday in a home on Sugar Cane Lane near Damascus.

According to police, Devaux waited for Lynae Mattson to return home and violently attacked her. When Devaux encountered Mattson, she was wearing Mattson clothes, a surgical cap and gloves, according to court documents.

Though seriously injured, Mattson was able to escape her attacker and get help at the home of a neighbor after being shocked with the stun gun repeatedly and beaten over the course of a half-hour..

A police spokesman told the Frederick News Post that both Mattson and the fetus are OK. Mattson is almost nine months pregnant.

Devaux was charged with one count of attempted first-degree murder, as well as weapons, kidnapping, burglary and assault charges. Mattson knew Devaux as her father-in-law's girlfriend, the Associated Press reported.

Devaux told Mattson that she, her husband and the baby were interfering with her relationship with the father-in-law.

She is being held without bond in the Montgomery County Detention Center. A bond hearing was scheduled for Monday.
