Potomac Fire Leaves 1 Dead

Second man also hospitalized

A fire in Potomac, Md., early Sunday took the life of one man and left another hospitalized.

The victim, 74-year-old Sung Y. Kwack, was a professor at Howard University. He was taken to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Another male victim, who was also in his 70s, remained in the hospital in stable condition on Sunday.

Flames broke out at his home at 8509 Scarboro Court at 4:40 a.m.

At least 65 firefighters were called to the scene to help douse the blaze.

Officials said the fire was extinguished about 20 minutes after fire crews arrived.
