Postal Worker Robbed During Dinnertime in U Street Corridor

Victim locked in postal truck

Along a stretch of 14th Street NW that’s home to several bars and restaurants, a postal worker was robbed during the dinner hour Thursday.

The worker was leaving the T Street Post Office at 14th and Wallach about 6:30 p.m. putting mail and the day’s proceeds in a postal truck when he was approached by a gunman. The gunman demanded the mail and money and locked the worker in the back of the truck.

The postal worker was able to call for help on his cell phone.

The street was blocked while the scene was processed.

Several postal employees and facilities have been robbed recently, officials said.
