HAGERSTOWN, Md. -- Trees and utility poles have been downed by a reported tornado near the Green Ridge State Forest in western Maryland, authorities said.

Allegany County Emergency Services said Wednesday that the damage included blocked roads near the Potomac River community of Oldtown.

The National Weather Service said Doppler radar indicated a tornado moving northeast from that area through Little Orleans, about 20 miles east of Cumberland.

In Virginia, a tornado warning was issued for Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania, Stafford and King George counties until 6 p.m. after a thunderstorm with strong rotation was spotted. That warning later was canceled.
