Arlington voters will be presented with a ballot that's like Old Home Week in the special election for the Arlington County Board to fill the seat vacated by Barbara Favola, now a member of the Virginia state Senate.
There's longtime School Board member Libby Garvey, who recently ran an unsuccessful campaign for the state Senate. Then there's Republican Mark Kelly, who has run unsuccessful campaigns for clerk of courts and County Board. Also on the ballot, Green Party candidate Audrey Clement ran an unsuccessful campaign for the County Board last year.
Election officials expect about 18 percent of the county's voters to participate, an extremely low turnout that could yield unpredictable results.
"In Audrey's case, she has good name recognition, already as having run for office here in Arlington," says Arlington Registrar Linda Lindberg. "So it could be that would split the vote a little more than if it were just the two candidates."
Polls will be open today from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
