Police: Woman Badly Hurt in DC Fire Purposely Started Blaze in Her Apartment

A woman suffering from critical injuries after an apartment fire in D.C. had intentionally started the fire herself, according to a police report.

The fire broke out at an apartment building on R Street NW before 9 p.m. Thursday.

A police report said a woman set three separate fires, forcing a dozen families out of the building.

Firefighters found the woman unconscious inside an apartment on the bottom floor. They gave her some medical help before an ambulance rushed her to a hospital, fire officials said.

"She [has] had some issues," neighbor Geraldine Fields said.

Fields said she has known the woman for years and that she has been dealing with several personal problems.

Fields said she wasn’t home when the fire started, but returned to find damage.
