Police say a Maryland woman was armed with a knife when officers shot her inside her home Wednesday morning.

According to police, officers were responding to her home for a mental health welfare check.

When officers repeatedly asked her to take her hands out of her pockets, the woman refused and threatened them with a knife.

Officers then deployed a stun gun, which failed because the woman was wearing several layers of clothing.

An officer then opened fire, striking the woman in the chest.
