Police Shoot Naked Gunman in Maryland

An officer shot a naked man who was armed with a rifle at a motel in Halethorpe, Md., Baltimore County police said.

The 42-year-old man was shot several times and was taken to Maryland Shock Trauma Center in critical condition, police said.

The shooting occurred about 3:40 a.m. Wednesday at the Beltway Motel on Washington Boulevard, police said. Someone called 911 to report that a naked man was standing in a room and firing shots outside with a rifle.

When officers arrived, the man came out of the room still holding the rifle, police said. The officers ordered him to drop it, but he didn't obey and began to walk toward the officers, police said. That's when they opened fire.

The officers have been placed on routine administrative leave.
