Police Search for Man Who Tried to Sexually Assault 9-Year-Old Boy

Police release surveillance images of suspect

Police have released surveillance images of the man suspected of trying to sexually assault a 9-year-old boy in New Carrollton Sunday morning.

Officials say the man grabbed the child and threw him to the ground near a 7-Eleven in the 8400 block of Annapolis Road around 8:30 a.m. The boy was able to escape, and ran to a nearby home where he told family members what happened. They called authorities.

New Carrollton Police said the child was not injured in the attack. But the news was concerning for New Carrollton residents who spoke with News4 reporter Darcy Spencer.

"That's very strange that it's so blatant," said one mother. "It is scary; I can't even imagine as a parent having to deal with something like that."

The suspect is described as a man in his 20s, about six feet tall with a trimmed beard. Police released surveillance images of him Monday, showing him wearing red shorts and a black shirt with a yellow "Taz" cartoon on the front.

Anyone with information about the suspect should call 301-352-1200.
