Police say there is enough evidence to place the blame for a 13-year-old Prince William County girl's death on her mother.

Alfreedia Gregg-Glover, 44, was charged with felony child neglect and filing a false police report in connection with the death of her 13-year-old daughter Alexis.  She was arrested at about 10 p.m. Tuesday following a police search of her home.

Gregg-Glover placed the girl in a creek in Woodbridge before reporting her missing, Prince William County police said. Police stopped short of calling Alexis' a homicide and declined to say whether she was dead when she was placed in the creek.

The child's body eventually was found by someone walking nearby on Friday, two days after her mother reported her missing. Gregg-Glover knew her daughter was dead and where the body was located long before it was discovered, police said.

Investigators arrived at Gregg-Glover's home before 6 p.m. Tuesday.  Detectives served a search warrant.  The trunk of a car in the driveway was among the places searched.

Detectives took away a number of items in brown paper evidence bags, along with something roughly the same size and shape as a laptop computer.

Detectives examined the back yard, and took photos of the area; a small plastic container was brought from the yard and placed in an evidence bag.

Earlier in the day Tuesday, Prince William County police released surveillance video from a school near the Central Library in Manassas. Police believe a blurry image appearing on the video may be Alexis, moments after escaping from her mother.

Alexis, also known as Lexie, was adopted and suffered from severe developmental and emotional disabilities because of past abuse, her mother has said.

Gregg-Glover is being held without bond.

Anyone with information about the case should call police at 703-792-6500.

  • Someone who cares Monday, Jan 26 at 9:57 PM FLAG COMMENT I just want to say that the family members of Lexi have lost a loved one and are in mourning right now. That WILL NEVER go away. I also know Lexi's mom and pray that she did not have anything to do with her dissapearance and/or death. May "LEXI" rest in peace. She will be missed.
  • Mary Friday, Jan 23 at 8:29 PM FLAG COMMENT This is, as stated in many of the comments, heartbreaking. I can't begin to understand what happened that would make a mother, be it natural or other wise harm her child, or any child. I know Mrs. Gregg and from what I know of her, this does not fit her character. I can only hope that the assumptions made of her is not true and pray for the precious lost life of an innocent child.

Police reports cant say much right now because the media will get into it and theyre currently under investigation. But yes she was the one that killed Alexis theyre %100 sure exactly what happened.
