24-year-old Jerrell Wedge was killed in an early morning crash in Upper Marlboro. Investigators say speed may have been a factor. Wedge was training to become a US Park Police officer.

A Park Police recruit was killed when the car he was driving struck a tree early Sunday in Upper Marlboro, Md.

Police said Jerrell Lamont Wedge, 24, of Upper Marlboro was pronounced dead at the scene. The accident occurred at Old Marlboro Pike and Maple Shade Lane about 3:30 a.m.

A preliminary investigation indicated speed was a factor in the crash.

Wedge was attending the Prince George’s County Police Department’s Training Academy as a recruit for the Maryland-National Capital Park Police, Prince George’s County Division.
