Virginia State Police are investigating a multi-car crash on the Dulles Greenway near Ashburn.

Two men were taken to a hospital with injuries after the crash Thursday evening, police said. One driver has life-threatening injuries.

Police were called to the scene just before 7 p.m. on Thursday. The driver of a BMW apparently lost control and crossed the median into the westbound lanes, investigators said. That car struck a Dodge and a Mercedes Benz head on. That crash caused the Mercedes to be struck by another SUV.

All westbound lanes were closed for at least two hours.

Heavy rain was in the area at the time of the crash due to a severe storm moving, police said.
