Police Make Arrest in Fatal Gas Station Shooting

Police in Anne Arundel County said they made an arrest in the fatal shooting of a gas station clerk in August.

Police say Robin Tyrone Smith, Jr. was arrested Friday in connection with the Aug. 7 robbery of an Exxon station in Hanover. Smith was charged with murder, armed robbery and other offenses.

"I am grateful for the partnerships with the FBI and our community that played vital roles in solving this murder," said Anne Arundel County Chief of Police Kevin Davis. "This cold-blooded, heartless killer had the audacity to roam freely while our community grieved. He committed this cowardly act and never thought twice about turning himself in. Today, he's in jail."

During the robbery, Rajinder Kumar, 49, of Glen Burnie, was fatally shot. The crime was recorded on surveillance video.

Authorities had been offering thousands of dollars in reward money for information leading to an arrest in the case. They said even though an arrest has been made, the case remains active.
