Pursuit Near Recent Crime Scene Spurs New Search in Fairfax County

Fairfax County police are searching an area near Holmes Run Park after officers had an encounter with two teens who may have been smoking marijuana near a recent crime scene.

Officers tried to talk to the teens Tuesday night after smelling what they believed was marijuana. But the teens ran into the park, and the officers weren't able to catch up with them.

Because of the pursuit's proximity to a recent crime scene, investigators returned to the area Wednesday morning to look for anything suspicious.

Last month, the remains of two people were found in the park. Investigators believe the deaths are "more than likely" gang-related.

Wednesday's police investigation is near Glasgow Middle School in the Lincolnia area of the county, but authorities say the investigation does not involve the school.

"There is no risk to staff and students and we are operating on our normal schedule," Glasgow Middle School Principal Shawn DeRose said in a letter to parents.

The investigation is expected to last for several hours.
