Samuel Diaz, 28, was crossing the 2400 block of University Boulevard Saturday night when he was hit.

Police say the driver of a silver SUV drove off after hitting Diaz in front of Adelphi Plaza.

One of Diaz’s close friends says he hopes police find the driver and deliver justice.

“That’s all we want,” said Jaime Marquez. “We want to talk to the driver to see what happened. It’s not his (Diaz’s) fault. They have to catch him.”

Pedestrians News4 talked to say University Boulevard doesn’t have a lot of crosswalks, forcing them to take their chances to cross the street.

Prince George’s County Police have started a “Street Smart” campaign to warn and ticket reckless drivers and jaywalkers.
