The Bowie Police Department says it is investigating the report of an attempted child abduction at a middle school earlier this week.

A female student at Benjamin Tasker Middle School said that after school let out on Tuesday, a man in a green sedan asked her to get into his car.  The man told the girl he was sent to pick her up by her mother, according to the report.  The man was described as light skinned and wearing glasses.

Police say the child refused to get into the car and got home safely.

The principle at Benjamin Tasker Middle School informed parents of the situation by letter on Thursday.

Police say they are not aware of any other students being approached by the man, but are urging parents and students to be cautious.
