A 26-year-old Forestville woman was arrested in connection with a stabbing at the Westfield Annapolis Mall.

Octavia Patricia Williams will be charged with first- and second-degree assault.

The incident stemmed from an altercation involving two groups of people inside the mall's American Apparel store around 6:15 p.m. Monday, according to authorities.

One of the people involved threw a punch but didn't strike anyone. Authorities say Williams swung her hands and struck the victim in the back with a sharp object, puncturing the victim's skin.

The injury was minor and the victim, 21, refused medical treatment.

The two groups of people did not know each other before the altercation, police said.

No charges had been filed as of 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
