Police Investigate Sexual Assault on Md. Jogging Trail

Maryland police are investigating a sexual assault that took place on the Sligo Creek jogging trail Monday morning.

About 7:10 a.m., a woman was jogging the trail between Maple Avenue and Piney Branch Road. She passed a man once on the trail without incident, but when she passed him a second time on her way back down the trail, the man grabbed her inappropriately then ran from the area, police said.

The assailant is described as a stocky black man, approximately 5-feet-10-inches tall. He was wearing black sweatpants and a blue hoodie. His face was partially concealed by the hood.

By the time police arrived on the scene, the man was gone and a subsequent lookout proved unsuccessful.

The assault follows a string of other local sexual assaults on jogging trails including the assault of two women in Frederick County and another near Rosslyn.

Police are encouraging joggers to avoid dimly lit areas, avoid walking alone with earphones and to report any suspicious activity to police.
