Police: Fireworks Injury Actually Gunshot Wound

Prince William County police said they are investigating a shooting after the victim originally told authorities that his gunshot wound was fireworks-related injury.

Police said officers responded to a residence at the 15500 block of Winding Creek Drive in Dumfries just after 5:30 a.m. on Saturday, where they discovered a 24-year-old man suffering from a wound initially reported as a fireworks injury. After determining that the injury was a gunshot wound, the man was taken to the hospital.

Police said a preliminary investigation revealed that the man had been involved in a fight in the parking lot hours earlier. Police responded to the parking lot and discovered a crime scene.

Police said the incident is still under investigation, and no arrests have been made.
