A man allegedly stabbed a woman and set fire to her home Thursday, Prince William County Police said.
Shortly before 4:30 p.m., officers responded to a report of a stabbing in the 1300 block of East Longview Drive in Woodbridge, Virginia, police said. They found a 38-year-old woman with stab wounds on the front lawn.
Informed that two small children might be inside, officers entered the home, which was full of heavy smoke, police said.
Firefighters arrived to extinguish the fire, and officers learned the children were at a neighbors house and hadn't been harmed, police said.
The suspect, 30-year-old Noel Antonio Quinteros-Ramirez, was sitting inside a car in the driveway, police said.
He had forced his way into the victim's bedroom and assaulted a man she knew, police said. During the assault, Quinteros-Ramirez allegedly grabbed a knife and stabbed the victim more than once.
He lived at the home with the victim but was not related or otherwise connected to her, police said.
Police spokesman Sgt. Jonathan Perok said the woman was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries but was expected to survive.
Three officers who entered the home were being treated for smoke inhalation at area hospitals and have been released. Another officer was treated and released for heat issues.
The circumstances surrounding the assault are under investigation, police said.
Quinteros-Ramirez has been charged with one count of malicious wounding and is being held without bond.
The Prince William County Fire Marshal's Office completed an investigation into the cause of the fire and charged Quinteros-Ramirez with burning or destroying dwelling house.
